On 15 July 2024, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued its decision in the case of Mario Vušković v. German Football Association (DFB), National Anti-Doping Agency of Germany (NADA), and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), imposing a four-year ban on the athlete for an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV). The CAS Panel confirmed the presence of recombinant erythropoietin (rEPO) in Vušković’s samples and rejected the argument that the detection was due to sample overloading. The Panel concluded that the standard four-year sanction for an intentional violation was proportionate and dismissed the reduction to two years imposed by the DFB Sports Tribunal.
