FIFA Disciplinary: Brazilian Football Association & Argentinian Football Association

This case relates to the qualifying match for the Qatar World Cup between Argentina and Brazil. The matter concerned the issue of the Argentinian players that arrived from the English Premier League to play the match in Brazil and the sanitary incident that arose first off and later on the field.

During that time (September 2021), Premier League clubs decided not to release the players for the qualifying matches in South America due to the sanitary restrictions they had to face upon returning to the UK, which will affect their presence in the club’s matches. Four Argentine players reached an agreement with their clubs and were released.

In Brazil, there were at the time also restrictions for passengers coming from the UK. When the Argentine team arrived in Brazil, the players did not inform them that they had been in the UK in the previous 15 days.
