On 21 April 2022, the Australian football governing body, Football Australia, updated its professional players’ transfer regulations, removing the transfer fee cap for non-first division contracted players that previously existed in Australian football. This regulatory change affects women’s and men’s football alike.
Since 2007, Australian football regulations limited the maximum transfer fee value paid for a player under a player contract. While transferring domestically, there was a 50% amounting to the total salary owed to the player under their existing player contract.
