On 2 June 2026, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) officially rendered a decision regarding two appeals submitted by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) against FIFA concerning sanctions imposed for the use of a homophobic chant by Mexican supporters during national team games.
In this context, the CAS Panel confirmed that the FMF shall pay separate fines of CHF 60,000 and CHF 80,000 (approx. EUR 65,500 and EUR 87,300) for the disciplinary breaches committed. Notably, one of the appeals was partially upheld, resulting in the annulment of a 15% partial stadium closure for the next A-level FIFA match organized by FMF for their male national representative team.
