The second match of the Libertadores 2018 semifinals, between Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, from Brazil, and Club Atlético River Plate, from Argentina, held in Brazil, on 30 October 2018, resulted in proceedings before the CONMEBOL Disciplinary Unit, in view of the behavior of the Argentinian coach Marcelo Gallardo. The coach, who should be serving a suspension sanction previously applied on him by the CONMEBOL’s disciplinary bodies, was seen using a radio to communicate with his team during the match and entering River Plate’s locker room at half-time.
Within this context, CONMEBOL opened disciplinary proceedings against Mr Gallardo due to the failure to comply with the decisions adopted by the confederation’s judicial bodies.
