What is the state of mind of football players at the moment?
Generally players are under a lot of stress and pressure: most of them have not received the salaries due to them, either in part or in full; there is a lack of clarity in many countries, federations and clubs as to what is expected from the players; players have not been able to perform their work as they are used to, only training alone until very recently (and in many countries it is still the case).
The number of professional footballers reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression has risen sharply since measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 caused the suspension of professional football activities, according to a survey carried out by FIFPRO and Amsterdam University Medical Centre.
Notably, the percentage of professional footballers reporting symptoms of depression has doubled.
