COVID-19: Paris Administrative Court Dismisses Claims by French Cubs contesting Ligue 1 Final Standings

The urgent applications judge of the Paris Administrative Court declares itself incompetent to rule on the legality of the decision taken by the French Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) to definitively stop the Ligue 1 championship and to adopt a “final standings” based on a quotient “number of points per match played”.

Three months ago, no one could have imagined that the LFP would face such a situation. The forced shutdown of both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 championships since mid-March, as a result of the exceptional measures taken by the French Government to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, which was initially a temporary measure.

On 13 March 2020, the French Government suspended football in France indefinitely over coronavirus concerns. French football stakeholders, including the LFP, had hoped to resume the 2019-2020...
