On 25 July 2017, Angel Maria Villar was suspended as President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
This suspension obeyed the criminal procedure conducted against him by the Spanish police and was a decision taken by the Spanish Council of Sports following the decision of the Judge, to send him into prison, unconditional and without bail, on 18 July.
