Cypriot Female Footballers Fight for Equal Treatment


On 10 February 2022, the world representative association for professional players, FIFPRO, shared the current struggles of female football players in Cyprus, where national team footballers receive three times less allowance when on international duty compared to their male counterparts. 

The Cypriot Football Association (CFA), like many other football associations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent waves and lockdowns, suffers from budgetary restraints. Notwithstanding this, the said restraints impact more female players than male footballers even when international football funds are destined to invest in the women’s game in the Mediterranean.
