Decoding Online Abuse of Players - Collective Responses by Players and Unions (Report)

On 31 May 2022, FIFPRO, the world representative organization for professional footballers, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) released the very first international study analyzing and deciphering the nature and level of online abuse directed at professional athletes in multiple sports, including football.

Since social media platforms and other modern technologies have facilitated sharing of opinions across the globe, many high-profile figures, including professional athletes, have suffered from  online abuse and bullying practices. This has not remained unnoticed by sports stakeholders, who are currently fighting and denouncing online abuses.
