On 7 April 2022, the world football organization announced, together with FIFPRO, the results of the second phase of its Player Protection Fund. During this phase, 140 players received compensation from FIFA to palliate the non-payment of salaries by the employer clubs.
On 11 February 2020, FIFA and FIFPRO launched the Player Protection Fund, a global fund for professional footballers to protect them from the non-payment of their salaries. Ironically, the fund’s launching concurred with the initial outbreaks of the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
