FIFA Governance Under Scrutiny After World Cup Rights Proposal


On 10 August 2026, AFC, Concacaf and UEFA published a joint open letter to the football family criticising the handling of FIFA’s withdrawn FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal. The confederations frame the issue as one of governance, consultation and trust, and call for an independent review of the process.

The letter follows the controversy surrounding FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), announced by FIFA on 28 July 2026. FIFA described FFE as a new FIFA-owned and controlled subsidiary that would consolidate FIFA’s commercial and event operations, while FIFA would retain sole control of FFE and exclusive authority over football governance, competitions, the international match calendar and all regulatory and sporting decisions.
