FIFA International Transfer Market Snapshot - Ed September 2023


On 7 September 2023, FIFA published its new snapshot analysis of the international transfer market window of mid-year 2023. It sets a record for the number of women’s and men’s footballers being transferred from their clubs. With the effects of the COVID-19 crisis totally overcome from a transfer perspective, new market players such as the Saudi Arabia League have emerged.

A clear upwards trend regarding both the number of completed transfers and the total amount spent on transfer fees was witnessed during the 2022 Summer or mid-year transfer window period of June, July and August 2023. More precisely, these were the figures of relevance:

  • An increase of 2.2% in the number of men’s football transfers (from 9,906 in 2022 to 10,125 in 2023);
