On 24 January 2023, FIFPRO issued a media release reacting to a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling in the case of Brazilian footballer Leandro Padovani who suffered a severe head and neck injury in February 2018 during an Iranian league match that ended his career. Even though CAS did not determine that the club was liable for Mr Padovani's injury, it ruled that CAS and the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber (FIFA DRC) have jurisdiction to hear similar cases of players injured due to their club alleged failure to comply with basic safety regulations.
