For decades, public authorities in Spain have waged a constant battle against violence and discriminatory attitudes in the sporting arena. Despite legislative advances and institutional commitment, behaviors that call into question the fundamental values of sport - respect, tolerance and coexistence - still persist. Far from being an isolated phenomenon, these acts, which range from physical violence to expressions of racial or xenophobic hatred, affect both clubs and their own supporters, gravely undermining the image of the sport as a space for social cohesion.
