Football in Uruguay amidst the Pandemic

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic impacted football worldwide, and Uruguayan football was no exception. In this article, we will briefly outline the consequences of the pandemic on Uruguayan football.

Uruguayan rules concerning the suspension of football amidst the pandemic

On 13 March 2020, once the first four cases of the COVID-19 infection were confirmed in Uruguay, the Government issued Decree 93/20, which regulates the measures to be adopted in order to prevent the spread of the disease. Article 1 of Decree 93/20 declared a national health emergency, while Article 3 suspended all public gatherings (including sporting events) until further notice from the Uruguayan Government.
