The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has become, since its creation in 1984, a key player in resolving sports disputes around the world. As proof, over 500 cases were submitted to its analysis in 2015, a figure constantly increasing. Naturally, the news of the CAS is extensive. Matthieu Reeb, General Secretary of the CAS since 1999, has agreed to answer our questions.
On 26 February 2014, the Munich Civil Court of Appeal released its verdict in the Pechstein case. The German court had expressed doubts regarding the independence of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) due to the components of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport, the body overseeing the operations of the CAS and mainly composed of representatives of sports federations, to the detriment of athlete representatives. Two years after the controversy surrounding the case, what do you think the important aspects are?
