On 7 October 2018, a new Law Decree adopted by the Council of Ministers was introduced to the Italian legal framework regulating sports justice.
A deadlock in the Serie B championship (the second tier of professional football in Italy) suggested the Italian Government to intervene again in the matter of the allocation of jurisdiction over sports matters after about 15 years from Law Decree no. 220 of 19 August 2003.
