As it has already been commented in previous issues of Football Legal (See Football Legal # 8, p. 157), the CONMEBOL Disciplinary Tribunal activity is being continually improved, although there are still some matters that could be further discussed and developed. A recent decision adopted by the CONMEBOL Disciplinary Tribunal issued in February 2018[2], imposing sanctions against the Club Nacional de Fútbol (Nacional), from Uruguay, raised some other interesting questions for debate, this time on the liability of the clubs for the acts of their fans in matches.

On 12 February 2018, the CONMEBOL Disciplinary Tribunal sanctioned Nacional with: (a) a prohibition of selling tickets to its fans for three matches played as visiting club in official competitions organized by the CONMEBOL; and (b) a fine amounting to USD 80,000 (approx. EUR 70,000), besides warning the Uruguayan club that this case could be considered as aggravating circumstance in the event of new disciplinary violations with same or similar nature.
