Payments by European Clubs to Russian Clubs – Are they Restricted?

A number of Russian clubs have faced problems receiving payments from their counterparties, mostly European clubs, due to sanctions. The justification of sanctions has become widespread, despite being groundless in most cases. As it appears to be, many clubs have certain concerns when it comes to any financial relations with a Russian entity, despite the vast majority of them not being impacted by the sanctions. Below, we analyze whether the measures adopted by the European Union against Russian entities do, in fact, prohibit funds from being transferred to Russian clubs.
