As everybody will remember, when professional football matches were reassumed after the start of the pandemic, new substitution rules were introduced by the football governing bodies. In particular, the number of players that can be substituted was raised from three to five, as a general rule.
During the EURO 2020 (that was actually played in 2021), a rule was added that allowed a sixth substitution if a match was drawn after 90 minutes and extra time was played.
