The French Football League strengthens the Ban on Buy-Out Clauses

The new Administrative Regulations of the French Professionnal Football League (LFP) now provide, at Article 202, in Chapter 1 entitled “Approval of players and coaches contracts” of Part 2 entitled “Players and coaches”, that any clause entitling a party to unilaterally terminate a contract is prohibited.

While spring 2019 gave rise to debate on the possibility of relaxing the regulations on buy-out clauses in France, the Board of Directors of the LFP decided, on 6 June 2019, to not only maintain their prohibition but to strengthen the sanctions imposed on offenders.
