The new FIFA Regulations relating to Coaches – Annexe 8 of the RSTP
In this article, the author will analyse the new FIFA regulations relating to coaches and comment on the new framework, particularly regarding the termination of a coach’s employment contract.[1]

Introduction

On 14 December 2020, FIFA announced in its Circular Letter no. 1743 that it would be introducing new provisions to the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) specifically relating to coaches. This was a significant announcement, as for many years, football coaches had been largely excluded from FIFA’s regulatory framework and had not been provided with the same protections as players within the regulations.

This apparent exclusion of coaches had not gone unnoticed by football stakeholders. There had been calls in recent years for FIFA to offer more protection to coaches, particularly in respect of their employment relationships with football clubs.
