The “Liga BBVA Bancomer mx”, the Mexican first division league, suffered unexpected events. For the first time in its history, the referees stopped the league.

On 8 March 2017, playing the tournament called “Copa mx”, Toluca played against Morelia´s Monarcas and America faced Tijuana´s Xolos. In the first match, almost at the end, after a controversial game action, one of Toluca´s players, the Argentinian Enrique Triverio, approached the referee in a violent way and got a direct red card.
