The Swiss Federal Criminal Court Acquits Joseph Blatter and Michel Platini of Fraud

On 8 July 2022, the Swiss Federal Criminal Court acquitted former FIFA President Joseph Blatter and former UEFA President Michel Platini of several charges related to the mismanagement of FIFA assets. Additionally, the Court ruled that other charges should be dismissed as the statute of limitation had already expired before the indictment.

The trial before the Swiss Federal Criminal Court, which sits in Bellinzona (Canton of Ticino, Southern Switzerland), was scheduled to last until 22 June 2022, while the verdict was expected on 8 July 2022. It should be noted that both defendants faced up to five years in prison.
