UEFA Prohibits Football Games in Transnistria until Further Notice


On 24 June 2022, UEFA announced that the unrecognized breakaway state of Transnistria, Moldova, will not host more UEFA inter-club competitions fixtures until further notice due to the ongoing military escalation in the region.

The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (also known as Transnistria) is an unrecognized breakaway state internationally recognized as part of Moldova (Eastern Europe). It is located on a narrow strip of land between the Dniester River and the Moldovan–Ukrainian border, hence, close to the Russo-Ukrainian war’s battlefields. Additionally, it is worth noting that after the military conflict that opposed the newly independent Moldova to Transnistrian forces in 1992,
