There is no statutory definition of force majeure in the Swiss Code of Obligations.

According to the Swiss Federal Tribunal (SFT) force majeure is understood to mean an unforeseeable, extraordinary event that is not related to the “business” of the liable party but occurs as an unavoidable external force.
