Facts


The dispute between Club APOEL Nicosia (APOEL) and Brazilian footballer Lucas Vieira de Souza (Player) originated from a series of contractual agreements and legal proceedings flowing from the Player’s transfer history. In 2017, the Player signed an employment contract with APOEL before transferring to Changchun Yatai (Yatai), a Chinese football club, in March 2020. In early 2021, while on loan at Beijing Guoan, the player unilaterally terminated his contract with Yatai, alleging that the club had violated its contractual obligations by unilaterally deregistering him with the Chinese Football Association. Yatai contested this claim, maintaining that the termination was without just cause.

At that time, APOEL began negotiations to re-sign the Player. Before finalising the new contract in August...
