FIFPRO Demands Strong Measures amidst Sexual Abuse Cases in Gabon


On 28 March 2022, the world representative organization of professional footballers released an official statement denouncing the situation of vulnerability faced by female Gabonese players. For more than two decades, female footballers in the Central African country have allegedly faced and continue to face sexual misconduct from Gabonese football officials.

This legal saga tracks back to May 2019, when the Gabonese Government released a public statement announcing that immediate action would be taken over sexual harassment claims. Accordingly, Gabonese authorities, including the Ministry for Sports, opened an inquiry into ill-treatment and sexual assaults against the U20 national women’s team...
