General Scenario of Juvenile Football in Italy
“The Italian Football Association, in cooperation with the National Olympic Committee and the competent Governmental bodies, promotes, regulates and manages juvenile football to pursue technical, educational and social aims.” This is the opening clause of Article 15 of the Statutes of the Italian Football Association (Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio - FIGC), which entrusts the Youth and Scholastic Sector of the FIGC with the whole movement of juvenile football: the organization of competitions, training and education of young players, training of club managers and organization of initiatives aimed at promoting and spreading the practice of football and its values.
The juvenile football organized by the FIGC is played by more than 13,000 clubs (about 3,000 of which have youth teams only) and about 700,000 registered players.
