The Dutch licensing system for professional football used by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has undergone major changes for the 2020-2021 season as a consequence of (the government measures in response to) the COVID-19 virus. This article discusses what the licensing system entails and what the (most important) changes are: which parts have changed and why?
Licensing system
With the licensing system, the KNVB strives to guarantee the integrity, continuity, and (undisturbed) course of the football competitions as much as possible. The licensing system also aims to guarantee the continued existence of clubs by improving quality determining factors regarding:
- finances (by means of periodic reports);
- infrastructure and safety (through the annual safety audit);
- the organization, including, for example:
- the organization of youth training;
- the legal structure; and,
- the interpretation of the work organization and administration.
