Pedro Rocha Elected New Spanish FA President

On 26 April 2024, sole candidate Mr. Pedro Rocha was appointed as the new President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), consolidating his position since FIFA banned former chair Luis Rubiales after the so-called "kissgate scandal." Turmoil and rumors of governmental influence have been recurring in Spain for the past few weeks. Mr. Rocha's election has been seen as a step forward in normalizing Spanish football until new elections are held in the fall.

On 27 March 2024, the Spanish public prosecutor issued an indictment asking for one year in prison for Luis Rubiales for the crime of sexual assault after giving a non-consensual kiss to footballer Jennifer Hermoso during the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.[1] In addition, the prosecution has also requested a year and a half more in prison under the accusation of coercion.
