Reus Deportiu: LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play in Action

On 10 May 2019, the Spanish Administrative Court of Sport (Tribunal Administrativo del Deporte - TAD) ruled to suspend CF Reus Deportiu from professional football for a period of three years. The Catalan club was also relegated to Segunda B (Spain’s third tier) and fined EUR 250,000.

Background

Reus Deportiu was promoted from Segunda B to Segunda A (Spain’s second tier) at the end of the 2015-16 season and has been competing in Segunda A since the start of the 2016-17 season. However, despite increased sporting stability after several years of playing in Spain’s lower tiers, the Club were having financial difficulties.
