On 7 October 2017, a group of players headed by Alvaro Ortíz, who was the President of the Players Commission, announced the constitution of the “Asociación Mexicana de Futbolistas”. They held a press conference, with the presence of Chicharito Hernández and other important Mexican players, explaining that they will become the representation body of the football players in México.
Months ago, Rafael Marquez announced that he wanted to lead the Mexican football players in creating a new association. However, Marquez’s legal problems with the USA Authorities made him quit the leadership, at least temporarily.
