UEFA Apologizes for 2022 Champions League Final Events


On 3 June 2022, the European football’s governing body announced the Terms of Reference for the independent review of the incidents that occurred during the final of the 2022 edition of the UEFA Champions League. The said review will aim at clarifying what security protocols failed during the final and who should bear the blame.

On 30 May 2022, following the incidents that tarnished the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday, 28 May 2020, UEFA announced that it would conduct an independent investigation of the incidents as fans attending the 2022 Champions League final suffered from robberies, crime and insecurity by organized gangs in the French commune of Saint-Denis, where the Stade de France is located.
