The case
César Peixoto was an internationally recognized player who has played for big clubs like FC Porto, SL Benfica and SC Braga. He won, among other competitions, the Portuguese League, the Champions League, the UEFA Cup and the Intertoto Cup. He also represented the Portuguese national team.
It was a successful career that, however, ended with a dismissal. Fortunately for the player, that dismissal was considered unlawful and he was duly compensated for the damages he incurred.
In the final period of his career, the last club that the player represented - Gil Vicente FC - instituted a disciplinary procedure that culminated in the dismissal of the player, based on several episodes that the club considered the concept of “just cause of dismissal” fulfilled.
